What is Sunless Skin Airbrush Tanning?
This is a spray mist application of sunless tanning solution to desired areas of the body. The solution has an active ingredient (DHA) which reacts with the proteins in the skin's superficial layer to form a golden brown color. With our regular solution, your skin begins to darken 2 to 3 hours after the spraying application process and reaches its peak color within 24 hours. With the rapid applications, depending on the solution chosen, darkening begins within 30 minutes to an hour.
How long will my spray tan last?
7 to 10 days depending on the preparation prior to your tan, as well as your after care, once your received your tan. Physical activity can also affect the longevity of the tan as well. (see before and after care tips)
How long will my appointment take?
The appointment usually takes about 15 minutes from start to finish. Additional teeth whitening services, increase the appointment time by 40 minutes.
Will spray tan stain my sheets or clothing?
Our tanning solution will dry quickly and is water-based, so it rarely transfers to clothing or bed sheets. If any color does get transferred, it can easily be washed off. You should always wear long dark loose fitting sweat pants or a summer dress or skirt until your first shower to protect the tan and fabrics.
What is dha?
This is the active ingredient otherwise known as dihydroxyacetone found in most sunless tanners, such as tinted moisturizers, self-tanners and spray tan solutions. DHA is often derived from a vegetable source like beets or sugar cane. Our solution is scent free. The way it works, is the the DHA reacts with the amino acids in the top layer of your skin to cause a chemical reaction. The reaction darkens your skin forming the tan color that you love!
DHA is completely safe! It is on the United States Food and Drug Administration's permanent list of acceptable cosmetic ingredients.
Is there sunscreen in the spray tan formula?
No. You will still need to apply an SPF sunscreen to protect your skin from sun exposure as well as moisturize while outdoors.
How long should I wait to Shower, exercise or swim after my tanning session?
You should wait until your tan is fully developed 12 to 24 hours. (Unless you purchased one of our accelerated formulas, for which we would give you proper instruction)
Any of these activities before then, would diminish the intensity of the tan.
Use moisturizers free of parabens and unnatural oils, also avoid prolonged exposure to chlorine when possible.
Will i get that fake orange color?
No Way! Our formula's have the highest quality solution that gives you natural looking a kissed be the sun tan, that will transition through the DHA processing into the a golden, smooth color within 8-14 hours.
Will the color wash off in the first shower?
Don't be alarmed, the cosmetic bronzer that is visible immediately after you are sprayed will wash off with your first shower (after 8 hours) and reveals the long lasting sunless tan developed with the DHA. Always use moisturizer after your first shower, not while the DHA is in the development stage. If you must shave, wait as long after your tanning application as you can and avoid applying pressure as to not exfoliate the skin underneath the hair. Pat dry your skin instead of rubbing the towel to dry yourself.
How can i extend the LIfe of my spray tan?
Exfoliate well, prior to your tanning session. This will get the dead skin cells off and help the solution absorb better into your skin.
Moisturize your skin after your first shower but avoid moisturizers with parebens and non natural oils. We offer products that will prolong the life of your spray tan including self moisturizers to us throughout the week after your session. They can extend your tan up to 3 days and are infused with the same type of high quality DHA as our natural spray solutions.Talk to you technician or see our products page for more details.
what should i wear during my spray tan session?
What you wear during your session is completely up to you. Most of our clients prefer to wear bottoms only, however we understand that each clients comfort level is different. We do not tan anyone under the age of 18 without a parent or guardians consent (if you are 18 or younger, please let us know upon booking).
MEN MUST WEAR BOXERS OR SHORTS during their tanning sessions.
What should I wear after my spray tan session?
After your spray tan, wear loose dark cotton clothing. Your tan will be dry but there may be residue on your body (the hair on your arms for example). It is best to wear as loose of clothing as possible to make sure nothing rubs off the skin. Our solution is water soluble so any residue will wash right off your clothing or sheets.
Health Questions
Can I get a spray tan while pregnant?
Pregnant women have been using sunless tanners for over 40 years with no problems or reports of side effects for the mother or the child. The FDA put DHA on its list of safe cosmetics in the early 70's, and we still take even further precautions to make sure all soon to be mothers feel comfortable!
If you are pregnant, please let us know if you have any concerns and we will gladly supply a list of our solution ingredients and procedures for you and your doctor.
are there any medical conditions that would prevent me from getting a spray tan?
When booking your appointment, please send us a note or call us to let us know of any allergies, if you are pregnant or nursing, medical conditions and or physical limitations. This will better prepare us and you in advance so we can provide you the best service to meet your individual needs.
If you have any open wounds or communicable diseases such as a cold or the flu, we ask that you be courteous by cancelling or not booking your appointment until you are healed and healthy. This is best for you and our technicians.
What precautions have you taken to deal with COVID-19?
To protect ourselves and our clients we have followed the CDC guidelines to the letter. Along with every other salon in the state of Colorado we shut our doors throughout April to prevent any contamination or spread in our environment and will continue to practice social distancing upon our return.
The great part about spray tanning, is that it is a minimal contact process in its nature. To insure we are doing our part to keep everyone safe, we have set out new procedures for each client to follow while in the salon, as well as continue to thoroughly disinfect any and all contact points between each client.
We do ask that anyone that wishes to book with us and come into the salon, is healthy with no fever or symptoms of respiratory illness, and is willing and able to comply with our social distancing and hygiene guidelines.
